Skate video games as industry growth indicator
Since Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater release, there has been a relationship between skateboard and video games. In fact, skateboarding went into mainstream as soon as it got into video games industry. Big companies investing in a skate video game is not a coincidence, they are obviously looking for a business oportunity. This is the reason why we see skate video games as industry growth indicator, and for this reason there are 4 new skate video games in 2020.
Every industry or business health is based on cycles, a curve ranging through a timeline. The curve of skateboard community is growing up from almost two years ago, it is because there are many factors pushing the scene all over the globe.
One of the most important factors is Olympics. Skateboarding should has been into during Tokyo 2020 Olympics, but it was cancelled because of the COVID19 pandemic. But having Olypmics as background, a lot of companies from video games and entertainment industry made it into skateboarding.
4 new skate video games in 2020
For this reason we will see the launching of 4 new skate video games in 2020, this fact is surprising having in consideration that we have been around 10 years without a new skate video game.
Skate 4 (Electronic Arts)
The last Skate video game edition was launched in 2010 joining to the youtuber trend, youtube made skate 3 video game so popular and it worked so good on sales terms.
There aren’t a date launchment for the Skate 4, but Skate 4 will be a reality, as Cuz Parry (Creativity Director) and Deran Chung (Game Director) said.
Both of them announced to be so excited to be involved in a new Skate video game version. So all those players loving simulator video games instead of arcade video games will be satisfied.
Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1+2 (Activision)
In 2020 February Activision announced: “we have remasterings and reimaginations ready to go”. The gaming style will be exactly the same, but improving graphics, with 60FPS and 4K resolution. Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1+2 will be available for PS4, Xbox One and PC.
It is amazing to see legends such as Steve Caballero, Rodney Mullen, Geoff Rowley, Bucky Lassek, Kareem Campbell, Andrew Reynolds, Bob Burnquist, Chad Muska or Tony Hawk with their current age in the video game.
Songs and game modes will keep the same, so we will be able to hear again Guerrilla Radio from Rage Against the Machine or You from Bad Religion while playing Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1 y 2.
Collectors choice will include Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1 + 2, some deluxe content and a Birdhouse Falcon 2 skate deck.
Skater XL (Easy Day Studios Pty Ltd)
A video game that will be launched just before than Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1+2 and with a simulator performance. Available for PS4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch y PC.
From Long Beach, California, we get this video game supposed to be launched on July 7th, with skaters such as Tiago Lemos, Tom Asta or Evan Smith.
Several pro skaters and skate brands are involved in this project, for example DC Shoes, Almost, Bones, Crupie, Grizzly or Element.
Session (Crea-ture Studios Inc.)
We already heard Session name in 2017, when the project was presented by Kickstarter. It has accepted by the community and some years later Crea-ture Studios Inc retook the project with a bit more of ambition.
It started as an independent project with the goal of turning into a multi platform video game once raised 35.000$. The surprise was getting more than 3000 sponsors and more than 160.000$.
A skate video game that will make a revolution into video games industry. Available for Xbox and PC. There’s no doubt that it will be in the top 4 new skate video games in 2020.
